Probably the most notable example of this is the Yamaha FJR1300. Doing a quick search on “throttle snatch” will give you a good idea of what we mean. This is no reflection on skill! Different versions of the G2 throttle tamer have been used by world champions like Miguel Duhamel (MotoGP Road Racing), David Knight (World Enduro).
For most of us, power exceeds our level of control.
For best results, power needs to equal control. For most of us, power exceeds our level of control. When David Knight switched to an RMZ450 this year, he informed us that the RMZ’s power was a bit abrupt. We sent him a G2 Throttle Tamer which gave him the extra control he needed. These throttles are used by Factory Yamaha Motocross Team, Factory Yamaha Road Race Team, AmPro Yamaha GNCC Team, Babbit’s Kawasaki GNCC Team, Tely Energy Team, Factory Beta Off-road Team, Coastal Racing Husqvarna Team, Team Hammer Road Racing and Westby Yamalube Road Racing to name a few ( here is a complete list of G2 professional dirt racers )! Before you change mapping or add flywheel weight to reduce power, why not do what these pros do and simply adjust your control first? You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by trying the G2 Throttle Tamer – we guarantee it.
How does it work? As you can see in the following video, the removable cam that connects to the throttle cable is progressive in shape. This delivers smooth power delivery and eliminates “throttle snatch.”
Check out the G2 Throttle Tamer on our street bike parts page. There are countless riders who swear by this inexpensive fix to over-responsive throttles.
For dirt bike riders, there are other factors in play such as the weather, track conditions, and rider skill level. Luckily, G2 has the fix for them too. The need for this is demonstrated by the number of professional dirt bike riders who use our throttles. You can also check out Dirt Rider’s review of the G2 Throttle Tamer.
…incorporates a non-linear ratio between hand throttle rotation and carburetor or throttle body opening.
The G2 Dirt Throttle Tamer for Dirt Bikes incorporates a non-linear ratio between hand throttle rotation and carburetor or throttle body opening. Providing a progressive shaped cam instead of the regular stock throttle shaped profile, there is a huge improvement in control. The radius increases after turning the throttle half way reaching full throttle at or near stock rotation. The following video demonstrates this.
For most dirt bikes, the Throttle Tamer includes a 400 style cam profile, but because the cams are interchangeable, it is possible to swap different profiles based on track conditions or rider skill levels. You can see all cam profiles on our dirt bike cams shop page.
Whether you are a street or dirt rider, no motorcycle comes out of the factory that is perfect for each rider. This is obvious if you look at how many aftermarket motorcycle shops there are out there. One thing is clear though, if you are in need of a throttle look to G2 Ergonomics.
