Should I use glue with my grips?

Probably the most asked grip question!  If you ask 10 seasoned mechanics, you will likely get 10 different answers!   After 20 years of throttle development and thousands of grip installs, we discovered Loctite Extreme Gel Glue (formerly Loctite GO2 Adhesive Gel) to be the best solution.  The Extreme Gel Glue is a high-strength, cryogenic adhesive, like Super Glue, but for grips it is superior in two ways:  first, it has a thicker consistence like honey.  This makes it very easy to slide on each grip.  Second, it has a longer cure time, making installation far more forgivable.  You have plenty of time to slide on the grip, then rotate it to the position you want.

  • Tip #1   Put some tape over the throttle tube end before installation to prevent glue from getting inside the tube.  You DO NOT want glue to get inside the tube and harden!!
  • Tip #2   Let the grips cure overnight for best results.  Once installed, DO NOT let anyone touch or rotate your grips for 3-4 hours.  If the grips are stressed before the adhesive is fully cured, the bond will be broken!
  • Tip #3   DIRT BIKE GUYS – wire your grips!  When you snip the excess wire and bend that little remaining nob into grip, always push the nub into the grip so it points to the outer end of the grip.  Trust us on this!
